Kalemegdan deserves the obvious first stop: fortress history and the Sava-Danube confluence in one frame.
Then split the city by mood: Saint Sava for scale, Zemun for another urban history, Tesla Museum for a focused indoor stop.
The transitions between sights are often better than the checklist.
Kalemegdan
Walk the fortress edges and the Upper Town before heading to Knez Mihailova.
Do not rush the river view.
Saint Sava and Vračar
See the temple, then keep walking through Vračar so it becomes a neighborhood stop rather than a bus-tour pause.
Morning
Morning works well for the temple and nearby streets.
Evening
Save a river walk or Kalemegdan sunset for evening.
Zemun and Ada
Give Zemun several hours: old core, Gardoš and the Danube quay.
Ada Ciganlija is the useful break from stone and museums.
Belgrade Fortress
History and river views
Saint Sava
Scale and mosaics
Zemun & Gardoš
Old streets by the Danube
Nikola Tesla Museum
Plan around a guided tour
Ada Ciganlija
Water and paths
What to eat
Eat where the route naturally puts you.
What I would skip
Do not enter every museum simply because it is nearby.
- Rushing Kalemegdan
- Reducing Zemun to one tower photo
- Scheduling every hour indoors
Bottom line
The classics are strong.
The walks between them make the city coherent.
Walk a little more than the checklist demands.
