You can walk much of central Chisinau, but trolleybuses quickly become the easy way to reach Botanica, Riscani and the parks. From 1 May 2026 a single municipal ride costs 7 lei.
01Trolleybuses are the city default
The network is dense and practical, with frequent stops and good links between the centre and residential districts.
- Single ride: 7 lei from 1 May 2026
- Use EasyWay or Tranzy for routes
- Keep the ticket until the end of the ride
02Buses and suburbs
Buses fill gaps and continue into suburban areas. The municipal tariff is unified enough that you do not need a spreadsheet.
- Check direction before boarding
- Allow extra time at rush hour
- Use live route apps for distant stops
03RMO airport
The airport is close to the city. Municipal transport and taxis connect it to central Chisinau. The IATA code changed from KIV to RMO in 2024, so old guides can retire gracefully.
- Check the current municipal route before arrival
- Use an app or official taxi desk
- Ignore improvised airport “special prices”
04Walking
Central Chisinau works best on foot. Distances are modest, trees are plentiful and interesting courtyards rarely advertise themselves from a bus window.
- Wear comfortable shoes
- Pay attention at wide crossings
- Valea Morilor is made for walking
Typical transport costs
- Municipal bus/trolleybus — 7 lei
- Tourist trolleybus — 30 lei
- Standard monthly pass — 273 lei from May 2026
What matters
- 01Download offline maps
- 02Carry some cash in lei
- 03Do not plan minute-perfect rush-hour transfers
- 04Walk the centre whenever practical
The best thing about Chisinau transport is how quickly it stops being something you think about.
